Boating Classes

Classes are taught at the Solano Yacht Club, 703 Civic Center Blvd., Suisun City, CA, and at other locations.  To get more information or to sign up for a class, call the flotilla at 707-427-8521, or e-mail to flotilla5-3@att.net

We offer two regular boating safety classes: 

ABOUT BOATING SAFETY

     This is an 8 hour class covering the basics of boating safety.  It is offered in either a 1-day session or in two 4-hour sessions.  The class covers boating safety for sportsmen, including:  

  • Boating Laws 

  • Boat Safety Equipment 

  • Safe Boating

  • Navigation

  • Boating Problems

  • Hunting and Fishing Water-skiing

  • River Boating

The cost of this course is $25.00 per person.

BOATING SAFETY AND SEAMANSHIP

This basic recreational boating class lasts eight weeks, taught in 2 hour sessions and covers the following topics:

  • Which Boat Is For You
  • Equipment For Your Boat
  • Trailering Your Boat
  • Handling Your Boat
  • Your "Highway" Signs
  • The Rules You Must Follow
  • Introduction To Navigation
  • Small Boat Safety
The fee for the class is $45.00 per person.

SPECIALIZED CLASSES

In addition, there are several specialized classes, covering:

  • Basic Navigation, 
  • Navigating with GPS
  •  Marlinspike Seamanship
  • Weather  

Cost for each of these classes is $20.00 per person.
